The best Kerman rugs are made in the town of Laver which is 120 miles from Kerman. The enterprising Atiyeh family owned several hundred looms in Laver and was the biggest manufacturers of Kerman rugs and carpets. But the Islamic Revolution in Iran, which began in 1979, demolished all their good work, and they were subsequently forced to shift production to China.
